Psychogeriatric Care

Michael Garron Hospital's (MGH) psychogeriatric outpatient services provide assessment with consultation only or direct treatment and monitoring of persons over the age of 65 suffering from mood, anxiety, psychotic or dementing illness with behavioural issues. Supportive therapy may be provided but not ongoing psychotherapy. In addition, consultation and follow-up by the psychogeriatric outreach team are provided at select retirement homes and homes for the aged. The patient’s community physician and any involved allied health professionals are involved in case coordination to enhance the patients’ functioning in the community. The service is staffed by part-time psychiatrists and a full-time nurse.
