Nursing Development at MGH

Nursing at Michael Garron Hospital evolves in response to the changing needs of the community we serve and therefore we are constantly working to support and develop our team members. Whether you are a new nurse or have years of experience, we are committed to providing an outstanding environment for you to grow your career.

Opportunities for Nursing Students

As an academic community teaching hospital, student education is central to our mandate. At MGH we are energized by the nursing learners who join us throughout their schooling. Many of our staff are in school too – our learning is never over. Come see the ways that MGH is inspiring the next generation of nurses.

Clinical Placements

Michael Garron Hospital offers a variety of placements ranging from group RN/RPN placements, pre-consolidation and consolidation in every area of the hospital (pending preceptor and area availability). Students have the opportunity to join medical rounds and RNAO rounds. Learn more about student placements at MGH here.

Nursing Extern Program

Michael Garron Hospital pioneered the Clinical Extern Program as a way to provide student nurses with hands-on experience working as members of our interprofessional team. Paid Externs positions are distinct from clinical placements and allow student nurses to consolidate their learning, develop skills and experience in an acute setting, and build confidence concurrently with their nursing program.

Externs are employed as unregulated health care providers and provide care as part of the healthcare team under the supervision of an appointed regulated healthcare professional.
