Michael Garron Hospital pioneered the Clinical Extern Program as a way to provide student nurses with hands-on experience working as members of our interprofessional team. Paid Externs positions are distinct from clinical placements and allow student nurses to consolidate their learning, develop skills and experience in an acute setting, and build confidence concurrently with their nursing program.
Externs are employed as unregulated health care providers and provide care as part of the healthcare team under the supervision of an appointed regulated healthcare professional.
