Almost 5,000 years of service combined: Thank you to the dedicated and caring staff at Michael Garron Hospital

Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) recently celebrated over 300 staff members who reached career milestones last year. Adding up the years of service for each staff member totals almost 5,000 years!

This dedication shown by staff forms the foundation of providing exceptional care to our community. Each person embodies MGH’s values of compassion, respect, integrity, inclusion and courage.

We introduced a few of these caring individuals after the Long Service Awards Reception in the spring. Keep reading to meet more of these individuals, learn about how they take pride in their work and why they choose to stay at MGH.

Ward Aide, Oncology
Celebrating 20 years

“I came to Canada as an immigrant from Colombia and started working in housekeeping at MGH. Over the years, I’ve been assigned to work in different departments including the Emergency Department, Human Resources, Organizational Development and the Fracture Clinic. I now work in Oncology.

No matter the role, I’ve always given my best with all my heart. Every day feels like the first, because I’m here to help others. That’s what brings me joy. I’ve stayed and worked here for 20 years because I’ve always felt supported and I’m proud to be a part of this hospital. MGH believed in me and I give my best in return.”

Medical Sonographer, Diagnostic Imaging
Celebrating 25 years

“I first came here as a student where I trained in X-ray. It happened to be a placement not far from where I lived. This is a community hospital and to me, it feels like a home away from home. I was immediately hired back after graduating from school.

I worked for several years in X-ray before being promoted to work in CT and angiography. I eventually decided to go back to school to learn ultrasound.

Now I’m a clinical instructor, working in the biopsy suite and I spend time training staff and students.”

“When you leave home and go to work, you want to go somewhere that feels like family and, for me, that’s here at MGH. We’re a very tight-knit team – we have fun, we get the job done and we’re always there for each other during tough times.”

Vanessa Hill

Vanessa Hill
Clinical Resource Leader, Complex Continuing Care
Celebrating 20 years

“I started working at MGH in 2004 as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) new grad. Over the past 20 years, I’ve obtained my Registered Nurse (RN) credentials and took a leadership role on my team.

The thing that has kept me at MGH is the people and the relationships you build with your colleagues. It’s like a family here. Being in a leadership role, I’m able to have a close relationship with frontline staff who I support and mentor, but I also learn about the different parts of the hospital and build relationships with others throughout the organization. I feel very fortunate.”

Guellie Ramos

Guellie Ramos
Ward Aide, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Celebrating 35 years

“I am responsible for putting out clean instruments in the NICU and ensuring supplies are replenished and not expired. I make sure to check the expiration date on everything to help ensure the safety of the little babies in the NICU.

I am happy working here. I like what I do and the people I work with. I wouldn’t be here if I weren’t happy!”

Reya Maramot

Reya Maramot
Accreditation Trainer
Celebrating 5 years

“I started at MGH as a nursing student and completed my consolidation and three placements here. During my time as a student, I never felt like I was different from the team.

Everyone was so willing to teach, contribute and impart their wisdom. I knew from then that if I was going to work somewhere, I wanted it to be in a place where I was considered family and where I could laugh with people at the end of a hard day. I’ve made some life-long friendships here.

My son is now a volunteer here and he feels it too! At MGH, you are never alone.”

Thank you, everyone, for your years of service!
