The MGH Team – Finalists for Canadian HR Team of the Year

MGH finalist for Canadian HR Team of the Year

After 26 years on the job, Margaret Conroy is still excited to come to work every day – and last month, she experienced what she describes as “the proudest moment of her career.”

As a Senior Human Resources (HR) Generalist at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), Margaret takes pride in building strong, supportive relationships with staff so they're able to focus their efforts on providing the best care to people coming through the community hospital's doors. The MGH HR team has a rich history of developing many comprehensive and award-winning programs, including workplace mental wellness, workplace violence, bullying in the workplace and LGBTQ inclusion. MGH is the first hospital to propose and establish gender-neutral language into collective agreements.

Programs like these, coupled with strong leadership, and a cutting-edge business model, are just a few examples of why MGH's HR team was selected as one of 12 finalists across Canada for the most outstanding HR team of the year (for organizations with over 500 employees).

“This recognition and being one of the staff chosen to attend the awards' presentation was ‘one of my proudest moments ever',” says Margaret.

”Our team is seamless, open to innovation, and this enables us to build impactful and effective relationships with our colleagues.”

Phillip Kotanidis, Director, Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety and Organizational Wellness echoed the team's excitement around the national recognition.

“It's a great honour for the team to be recognized across Canada amongst top tier employers. Thisis a testament not only to the passion and commitment of our HR team, but also to the senior leadership and management teams for their support in valuing and promoting the people initiatives we drive across the hospital,” says Phil.

“Our HR team is humbled to have the opportunity to contribute to excellent patient care through the work we do each day; that's the greatest motivator.”
