Ina Grafton Gage Home

Volunteer Program

Located within the community that MGH serves, Ina Grafton Gage Home is a long-term care home in Scarborough close to Warden and St. Clair. They pride themselves on ensuring their residents live life to the fullest in a home like feel. If you are interested in volunteering at Ina Grafton, please click on the button at the bottom of the page to complete an online application form.

 Friendly Visitor

  • Volunteers will provide one-to-one visits to individual residents
  • Visits could involve chatting, reading to the resident, playing cards or other games, reminiscing, playing music, etc.

Recreation Assistant 

  • Volunteers will work closely with Program Staff & assist with various programs such as arts & crafts, bingo, trivia, sing-along, group outings, the Java Music Program Mentor, Snozelen room, and using the Touch2Play devices with residents, etc.
  • Assist with programs during the day, evening and on weekends.

Tuck Shop

  • Support the resident managed tuck shop
  • Duties include sitting/standing in the tuck shop, greeting people, allowing residents/staff/visitors to purchase items, monitoring inventory
  • Help keep the tuck shop tidy and organized
  • Support resident engagement

Friendly Visitors for Palliative Residents

  • Volunteers will provide one-to-one visits for palliative care residents
  • Visits could involve chatting, reading to the resident, reminiscing, aromatherapy, etc.
  • Assist with setting up palliative care carts and replenishing supplies

Musicians, Singers & Other Entertainers

  • Volunteers who sing or play a musical instrument can perform for residents

Pastoral & Spiritual or Religious Services 

  •  Provide worship services in group and/or one to one visits as desired by the residents
  • Assist with religious services
  • Friendly visits and spiritual companionship
  • non-denominational spiritual counselling
  • Seasonal observance support (eg. Advent, Ramadan, Diwali)
  • Religious Celebrations
  • End of Life Care spiritual presence
  • Scripture reading or devotional sharing
  • Spiritual discussion groups
  • Prayer and Reflection
  • Facilitating hymn singing or spiritual music 

Special Event Volunteers 

  • Volunteers will work closely with Program Staff & assist during special functions, holiday events, birthday parties and other social functions.
  • Dates and times of events vary.

Requirements for joining the Volunteer Program

  • Be at least 16 years of age;
  • Be able to make a one-year commitment to volunteering at IGGH;
  • Contribute two to four hours once a week;
  • Complete an online application form linked on this webpage;
  • Provide two references;
  • Submit full immunization and two-step tuberculosis (TB) skin test documentation;
  • Submit vulnerable sector check (aged 18 and older);
  • Be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English; and
  • Be team-oriented, reliable, punctual and professional and have great customer service skills.

Volunteer Application Process and Deadlines

It is important to note that not all applicants will be contacted and interviewed. Applications will remain active for a six-month period and applicants will be called based on vacancies and applicant availability.
