Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) and East Toronto Health Partners (ETHP) are offering first dose and second dose appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 and third (booster) dose appointments for select individuals in this population.
If no appointments are available, we encourage you to check back regularly as more appointments are added. If you are a child aged 5 to 11, you can also walk in to one of our mobile and pop-up vaccine clinics in East Toronto. Please read the eligibility carefully for these sites.
Children aged 5 to 11 must be with a parent, guardian or caregiver who is aged 18 and older. Parents, guardians and caregivers must bring an ID or document with their own name and date of birth.
This page is for booking first dose, second dose and third (booster) dose appointments for children aged 5 to 11 only. To book a first dose, second dose or third (booster) dose appointment for an individual aged 12 and older, or a fourth (booster) dose appointment for an eligible individual aged 12 and older, click here.
The optimal time between doses for children aged 5 to 11 recommended by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) is 56 days. However, children aged 5 to 11 can get their second dose if they received their first dose more than 21 days ago. The 21-day interval is the period that was used during the vaccine’s clinical trials for children. It is safe and effective and provides your child protection against COVID-19.
If you would like your child to receive their second dose after 21 days, please call the provincial booking line at 1-833-943-3900. You cannot book a second dose appointment on the provincial booking system online for a child aged 5 to 11 using the 21-day interval.
Children aged 5 to 11 can also receive their second dose after 21 days at our mobile and pop-up clinics where vaccines for this age group are available. A parent, guardian or caregiver must provide informed consent at the time of vaccination.
Please bring a referral letter from your physician, or their authorizing organization, with the following information: contact information for physician, specialist, medical practice or health organization of authorized individual completing the letter; patient’s name, health card number and address; confirmation that the patient is eligible for their third dose; and any patient-specific concerns, including treatment considerations and how that may affect vaccine administration.
Due to vaccine supply and availability, Moderna will likely be administered during your vaccine appointment with MGH/ETHP if you are aged 30 or older. Pfizer will be administered for children aged 5 to 11.
The Moderna vaccine is as safe and effective as the Pfizer vaccine. In addition, it is safe and effective to mix vaccine brands, especially for your booster doses. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine will provide you maximum protection against COVID-19, including the highly transmissible Omicron variant. We strongly encourage you to accept the first vaccine brand available to you, regardless of the vaccine brand(s) you received for previous dose(s).
If you feel sick or have COVID-19 symptoms, please do not visit our COVID-19 vaccine clinics, even if you have booked an appointment in advance. You should self-isolate or self-monitor according to guidance from the Ontario government. If you have COVID-19 and are vaccinated while infected, the vaccine may not be as effective.
You can also call the provincial booking system at 1-833-943-3900 or book an appointment at a participating pharmacy. COVID-19 vaccines are also available at our mobile and pop-up vaccine clinics. Please read the eligibility carefully for these sites.
