Tours & Classes

Prenatal tours of the Family Birthing Centre are held on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. Registration is required. Please call 416-469-6130. If you register for a weekend Prenatal Class the tour is included. You can also watch a tour of the unit.
This program will prepare you for your birth experience. Learn what you might expect during your pregnancy, birth, and early weeks with your baby. Watch videos, practice comfort measures such as breathing and massage, share concerns with other expectant parents. Our prenatal classes also include a Monday evening Breastfeeding Class and a Baby Care class on Tuesday or Thursday evenings.
Four post-natal classes are also included. These sessions cover a variety of topics including: starting solids, adjustment to parenthood, coping with fatigue and isolation, going back to work, daycare, weaning, and more. As well, these classes provide an opportunity to meet other parents and babies, to share experiences and provide support for the new parent.

In the Breastfeeding Class participants learn what to expect when initiating breastfeeding, how to prepare, common challenges, baby positioning and more, along with an informative question and answer period. It runs Monday nights from 7:00-8:30 p.m. This class is $20.00 per couple (included with prenatal class registration). Please complete the Prenatal Class Registration Form and return in person to the hospital's Admitting Department or Reception Desk on J7.
BABY CARE CLASS
In this class you will learn about newborn appearance, physical characteristics at birth, newborn behaviours, crying, all the benefits of skin to skin, sleep patterns, diapering, bathing, health, safety and newborn development. This class runs on Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:30 p.m. This class is $20.00 per person or couple (included with prenatal class registration). Please complete the Prenatal Class Registration Form and return in person to the hospital's Admitting Department or Reception Desk on J7.
In this class, participants will learn how to support both adult children and new grandchildren during this exciting time in their lives. Learn of updated techniques, guidelines on caring for infants, major growth and development milestones for newborns and how to provide emotional support for new parents. There is an informative question and answer session as well. Classes are $40.00 per person and are held Sundays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Please complete the Prenatal Registration Form and return it in person to the hospital's Admitting Department Registration Desk on J7 or call the reception desk at 416-469-6130 for more information.
INFANT CPR CLASS
In the Infant C.P.R. class participants will learn life-saving techniques from Heart & Stroke infant CPR from certified instructors. Classes are offered on Thursday evenings. This class is $45.00 per person or $80.00 per couple. Please phone or come to the registration desk on J7 to complete the Prenatal Class Registration Form and return it in person.
BIRTHING OPTIONS: VAGINAL BIRTH AFTER C-SECTION (VBAC) CLASS
Having a vaginal birth after having a c-section is an option for some parents. Speak with your physician or midwife about whether a VBAC is a possibility for your next delivery. This class discusses risk factors and what happens during a trial of labour to help you make an informed decision about whether a VBAC could work for you.
