Overview

The Lab Technologist provides quality laboratory testing in the Pathology lab by observing the standards of accuracy, efficiency and safety according to established procedures and policies (OLA Standards). Maintains open lines of communication with the Laboratory Manager, staff in other lab areas and nursing areas.

Education

- Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technologist program.
- Active registration with the CMLTO (Pathology). Cytology registration would be an asset

Qualifications

- Minimum two to three years of clinical experience in Histology with demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge in problem solving and troubleshooting (preferred).
- Ability to cut a minimum of 30 blocks with quality per hour.
- Proficient with embedding and special stains (preferred)
- Experience with immunohistochemistry (preferred)
- Experience with histology instrumentation.
- Proficient with frozen sections and the ability to perform under pressure.
- Experience in gross exam ination and dictation of surgical specimens (preferred).
- Experience with QA, QI and accreditation preferred.
- Knowledge with workplace and chemical safety.
- Computer experience preferred (Paradigm, CoPath, SoftPath).
- Ability to communicate and function under pressure.
- Good attendance and work record required.
- Demonstrate interest in continuing personal and professional growth.
- Mature responsible judgment.
- Ability to communicate clearly, teach, problem solve and organize.
