Celebrating our physicians and their inspirational work on Doctor's Day

May 1 is Doctor's Day, an opportunity to recognize and thank physicians for all they do to keep patients safe and healthy.

Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) is proud to have incredible physicians who embody the values of the hospital and community; they are compassionate, courageous and act with integrity and accountability. They put patients first and do everything in their power to create a healthier community for everyone.

Over the past year, several MGH and East Toronto community physicians have been profiled for their leadership, innovation and advocacy work and have spoken about the care they provide at MGH and to the community at large. In honour of Doctor's Day, here is a collection of stories to recognize the inspiring work of physicians in East Toronto: 

• Dr. Cristina Pastia, Emergency Department Physician, shares what it's like to provide care for patients at a time when they need it the most in this #IamMGH feature
• In this PRIDE Month feature, Dr. Helena Frecker, OBGYN, talks about the need to reduce barriers and increase inclusivity for members of the LGBTQ+ community
• Dr. Janine McCready, infectious disease physician, shares her thoughts on the need to move quickly in the response to COVID-19
• Dr. Jarred Rosenberg, geriatrician, discusses how MGH has lead the way in supporting East Toronto LTC homes in response to COVID-19 and why it's so important to help our seniors
• The MGH Ophthalmology team reflects on a local donation to improve their ability to safely deliver care
• Dr. Jeff Powis, medical direction, infection prevention and control, talks about the need to open up COVID-19 Assessment Centres  
• Dr. Michael Warner, medical director, critical care, lends his his voice on several topics including the need for social distancing, launching the PPE Drive and sharing reflections from inside the ICU
• Dr. Catherine Yu, a local family physician, discusses the hospital's partnership with SCOPE and how it is positively impacting both physicians and patients 
• Dr. Farah Marani, a local family physician, discusses what it's like to work in the MGH COVID-19 Assessment Centre
• Dr. Patrick Darragh, chief medical information officer, shares how the digital app, Hypercare, is helping coordinate care during COVID-19
• Dr. Chris Smith discussed partnering with OTN and SETFHT to offer virtual follow up for COVID-19 patients. (p. 28)
• Dr. Gili Adler Nevo, psychiatrist and head of the Child Anxiety Clinic, shares her tips on how to speak to children about COVID-19 and for young people dealing with anxiety during self-isolation
