MGH launches next phase of campus transformation, major renovation work begins on February 10
Michael Garron Hospital’s (MGH) campus transformation continues with major renovation work beginning on February 10, with a focus on the hospital’s original campus. This renovation work follows the highly anticipated opening of the brand-new Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre (Thomson Centre) The Thomson Centre officially opened for outpatient care on January 23 and for inpatient care on February 4.
Patients and visitors can expect to experience some hallway closures and detours around the hospital. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we transform and upgrade our campus to better serve the community.
Here’s what you need to know ahead of your visit beginning Friday, February 10:
Patients and visitors encouraged to use Sammon Avenue entrance for scheduled hospital appointments
Due to ongoing renovations, there will be several detours on the first and second level of the original hospital building. Therefore, patients and visitors are encouraged to use the new Sammon Avenue entrance, located between Knight Street and Coxwell Avenue, for scheduled hospital appointments.
Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to your appointment. Upon arriving, there will be temporary signs to help you navigate the campus. Volunteers are also stationed in the Thomson Centre for navigation assistance.
For more information, please view the hospital campus map.
Visit the Emergency Department (ED) through the main ED entrance on Mortimer Avenue
If you are visiting the ED, we encourage you to enter or get dropped off at the ED entrance on Mortimer Avenue.
Short-term parking is available off of Mortimer Avenue with additional public parking available in the Thomson Centre underground parking garage off of Sammon Avenue. If you enter the hospital through the Thomson Centre parking garage, please follow the signs to the ED.
Temporary food and retail closures
While MGH prepares to open the brand-new Moez and Marissa Kassam Food Court, located in M1 adjacent to the Thomson Centre lobby, there will be temporary closures of some food vendors.
As of January 30, Athens Pastries, U-Naru Sushi and Oriental Chopsticks are temporarily closed for essential renovation work in the G1 zone.
The much-improved food court space will co-locate food vendors in one convenient location and provide ample seating for patients, staff and visitors.
With construction underway, food options are limited. Click here to view the most up-to-date list of food vendors available during your visit to the hospital.
Reminder: Patient Registration now located in M1 of Thomson Centre lobby
The hospital’s Patient Registration, previously located on G1, has re-opened in a new location on M1 as of Saturday, January 21, 2023.
Patients and visitors can access MGH’s new Patient Registration area from the new Sammon Avenue entrance; upon entry, walk through the doors and pass the main elevators into the Thomson Centre lobby (M1). Patient Registration is located adjacent to the lobby on the right.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as the hospital makes these updates to better serve the community.
