Open letter from Melanie Kohn, President and CEO of Michael Garron Hospital: ‘I feel so privileged to join this special community’

Today (June 12), Melanie Kohn steps into the role of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH). Melanie shares what inspires her about MGH and what she’s most looking forward to in the coming days and weeks.

To my colleagues and the extended Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) and East Toronto community,

Thank you for welcoming me with open arms and hearts. I am honoured to be taking on the role of President and CEO of MGH.

In East Toronto, MGH plays a vital role in the community, which extends beyond hospital walls. That role includes being a trusted care provider, employer, partner and neighbour.

I feel so privileged to join this special community that is consistently there for people with unwavering integrity and courage. Never was this more clearly demonstrated than over the last few years as MGH and East Toronto Health Partners, the Ontario Health Team the hospital is part of, stepped up as leaders in integrated and equity-focused care for the community, but also as a model of excellence we now aspire to across the Ontario health system.

In the coming days and weeks, I am looking forward to connecting with, listening to and learning from the amazing people that make up this very special tight-knit community.

I will humbly look to all of you – staff, physicians, patients, volunteers, community members, partners, neighbours and donors – to help me understand the organization, the culture, the community and what makes this place tick and buzz with excitement.

When you see me in the hallway, on the units or out getting to know the neighbourhood, I welcome and encourage you to please introduce yourself and say hello.

Our stories connect us to a greater purpose and to one another. I am looking forward to hearing your stories – to understand what motivates and excites you and what we can do better.
