Overview

The Rapid Access Addition Medicine (RAAM) clinic offers support to individuals requiring help with substance use disorders. The clinic provides care for addiction issues, including assessments, counselling and prescriptions for medications that may help with lessening cravings and withdrawal symptoms. The Acute Consult Service (ACS) provides specialized care to inpatients at MGH who require addiction support while admitted to hospital. As an integral member of an interprofessional team supporting both t he RAAM clinic and the ACS, the Social Worker will provide individual and group counselling, therapy and system navigation support using a holistic approach that is trauma informed, gender transformative and anti-oppressive. The Social Worker will work c ollaboratively with other professionals in the Mental Health and Addiction Program to ensure timely and appropriate coordination of care for clients with complex health and social needs. Using an evidence-based approach, the SW will also provide case man agement and community based support to RAAM/ACS clients and their families/caregivers. As the inaugural Social Worker in the RAAM/ACS, a key component of the role will be to participate in program planning, implementation and evaluation.

Education

- Master of Social Work from an accredited school of social work, or equivalent degree, as recognized by the Ontario College of Registered Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)

Qualifications

- Experience working with adults living with substance use/addictions, mental health challenges, and concurrent disorders
- Experience with preventing and responding to crises
- Training, knowledge and experience in anti-oppressive, gender transform ative approaches to
care/treatment
- Demonstrated competency and experience working with diverse communities using a health
equity lens
- Experience using a range of therapeutic modalities that are client-centred and strength-based
- Extensive knowledge of and specific training in Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioural
Therapy
- Experience in case management, therapy/counselling, care planning and group facilitation
- Thorough knowledge of, and proficiency in, current best p ractice assessment and counselling
techniques for individuals, families and groups
- Knowledge and experience applying conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques
- Sound knowledge and experience working with adults with histories of trauma, a buse, self-harm
and/or suicidal behaviour
- Well-developed individual, family and group assessment and intervention skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of related legislation
- Knowledge of adult mental health and substance use/addiction resources
- Demonstrated ability to work in an interprofessional team environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in the use of computer technology and various software applications
- Good wo rk and attendance record required
