At Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), we are committed to building a healthier community together and research and innovation is at the very heart of this goal.
With our healthcare system under extreme pressure, we are at the forefront of finding new ways to do more, and to do better, in service to our community. We excel in making healthcare safer and more effective for more than 400,000 people in East Toronto, as well as people from surrounding areas.
For more than 80 years, research has played an important role in our history, culture and the care we provide every day to our patients and community-at-large.
Our frontline care teams see how the strains on our health system impact the health and welfare of the people in our community every day. This informs and inspires our nimble approach to building practical solutions that address these challenges and improve the quality of care. The solutions we co-design with our patients and clinicians are built specifically to enhance equity and barrier-free access so that everyone can receive the excellent healthcare they deserve.
Today, the impact of our research can be felt on a local, national and global scale. In 2022, MGH was named the Canadian home to the Patient Partnered Diagnostic Centre of Excellence, an international group of scientists, patients and clinicians dedicated to eliminating diagnostic errors in care.
Ahead of us is a tremendous opportunity to advance the science on how care and health services should be delivered to be safe, efficient, equitable and trusted. Our focus on clinical excellence, patient-centered care and health system integration means that we can design innovative solutions with and for the people we care for, while also improving the systems that exist outside our hospital’s walls.
As we look to the future, we are excited to work towards opening a formal Institute that will inspire innovation and allow us to become a global powerhouse in changing the future of healthcare, today.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kelly Smith, PhD,
