MGH’s brand new Thomson Centre opens for outpatient care on January 23. Here’s what you need to know.

On Monday, January 23, 2023, Michael Garron Hospital’s (MGH) brand new Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre (Thomson Centre) is opening for outpatient care.

The Thomson Centre, an eight-storey, state-of-the-art facility, is home to 215 inpatient beds and two floors of modern outpatient clinics.

Read more about the celebratory opening of MGH’s Thomson Centre, which took place on January 11.

Many of MGH’s outpatient clinics will move into the Thomson Centre from January 20 to 22. These clinics will open to patients for the first time on January 23 and 24.

Admitted patients (inpatients) will be welcomed to the Thomson Centre starting on February 4, 2023.

Here are the major changes that will take place at MGH starting on Saturday, January 21:

New location for Patient Registration  (starting January 21, 2023)

The hospital’s Patient Registration, which was previously located on G1, is re-opening in a new location on M1 on Saturday, January 21, 2023.

As always, all outpatients must register at Patient Registration before proceeding to their clinic appointment.

To find MGH’s new Patient Registration:

  • From the main entrance (Coxwell Avenue): Enter the hospital and walk past the Information Desk and straight down the main hallway. At Athens Pastries, turn right and walk into the Thomson Centre Lobby (M1). Patient Registration is located on the left, adjacent to the lobby once you’ve passed the food court.

  • From the Sammon Avenue entrance: Walk through the doors and past the main elevators into the Thomson Centre lobby (M1). Patient Registration is located adjacent to the lobby on the right.

  • From the Thomson Centre underground parking garage: Take the parking elevators to the ground floor. Upon exiting the elevator, turn left into the Thomson Centre Lobby. Patient Registration is located adjacent to the lobby on the right.

New locations for many outpatient clinics (starting January 23/24, 2023)

Many of MGH’s outpatient clinics are re-locating to the Thomson Centre and some will have slightly different names. Please see the chart below for a list of clinics moving, their new locations and their new names, if applicable.

To find your clinic: All patients must visit Patient Registration before attending their appointment (see above). At Patient Registration, clerks will hand patients a wayfinding slip directing them to their clinic’s new location.

Unless otherwise specified, clinics will open to patients in the Thomson Centre on Monday, January 23.
