Overview

To act as an assistant to the Shift Engineer in terms of Plant operation and to provide maintenance services for those areas of pant and buildings for which the Shift Engineer is responsible.
The shift Engineer will assumeresponsibility for plant and bu ilding operation whenever the 2nd Class Shift Engineer is absent from Plant. To respond to building service calls and emergencies, especially during the after hours and on weekend and to provide maintenance services for on-floor HVAC equipment, with this including mechanical room and power plant housekeeping duties.

Education

- 4th class Operating Engineer's TSSA license required
- Willingness to write and obtain a valid Inter-Provincial or Province of Ontario
License as a Third Class Operatring Engineer within 8 months of employment.
- Diploma in Power Plant engineerin g.
- College or university graduate

Qualifications

- Minimum of 6 months working experience preferably in a hospital or institutional environment with some exposure to operations, maintenance and repair of coil tube boilers, HVAC, Building Automation Systems, mechanical, plumbing and electrical equipment and systems.
- Working knowledge of safe use and operation of hand and small power tools.
- Steam boiler operational experience on coil tube boilers and the associated water treatment systems.
- Some experience troubleshooting and effecting repairst o HVAC systems and equipment.
- Operational use of computerized Building Automation System.
- Working experience on computerized Preventative Maintenance System.
- Able to read, interpret and utilize blueprints and technical journals.
- Ability to wo rk extended periods in hot, dusty or inclement weather and wet conditions to complete
repairs.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting up to 100 lbs and carry equipment and supplies as required.
- Good work and attendance record required.
- A willingnes sto learn and a strong desire to achieve.
- Computer literacy in Windows operating system and some experience using building automation
system software and equipment.
- Small hand tools and power tools for general repairs.
- Pipe and threading equip ment for steam system repairs.
- Bell-Boy Pager and Radio for dispatching of tasks and assignments.
- Monitoring equipment for troubleshooting and adjustments, including but not limited to, vibration
analyzers, pyrometers,velometers and air balance equipment
