Overview

Responsible for comprehensive nursing care as established by the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the standards of nursing care of this hospital. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient needs relative to n ursing care. Performs as a highly functioning member of the interdisciplinary team.

Education

- Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Recent education related to Haematology/Oncology/Nephrology Care required.
- Oncology or Nephrology Nursing program certification or working tow ards completion
- CNA certification in Oncology or Nephrology an asset
- Current BCLS required

Qualifications

- Must be prepared to work in all areas of the Medicine Health Service
- 2 years experience in Oncology/Nephrology nursing required
- Previous experience with the following patient populations - Geriatric, Medical
- Ability to promote optimum leve l of patient functioning
- 2 - 3 years of recent continuous experience and demonstrated competence in IV therapy including challenging IV insertions
- Demonstrated expertise, competence and recent experience in management of central venous access de vices (PICC, Hickman, Port-a-Cath, dialysis catheters)
- Demostrated knowledge of current chemotherapy/biotherapy protocols and policies
- Demonstrated expertise, competence and recent experience of peritoneal dialysis
- Demonstrated ability to functi on as an effective interdisciplinary team member
- Experience in the delivery of patient teaching programs (individual and group) guided by the principles of adult learning
- Evidence of willingness to actively participate in Hospital and Health Servi ce councils and task groups
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication skills; organizational, leadership and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize to meet unit needs
- Ability to work independently asw ell as in a team environment
- Maintains competence relative to current practice
- Practices in accordance with the mission and vision of the hospital
- Demonstrates appropriate use of Core Service Standards
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing ed ucation, personal and professional development and professional research/theory based nursing practice
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent time management and attendance record required
